Set the right guardrails
What to set
Check the result, not just the switch.
Start with the actual account and device. Use a suitable child or supervised account where the service offers one. Review app installation and purchase approval, then the service’s own chat, contact, content and privacy settings. A device setting may not control everything inside a game.
Google Play purchase and download approval is one example; Apple’s Ask to Buy provides a similar approval concept. Their coverage and exceptions differ. Neither is a general chat restriction or a guarantee that every transaction is blocked. Use the official instructions linked below for your account and device.
Choose one harmless check: confirm the intended account and approval setting, or, if appropriate, send a request for a suitable free app and stop before approving or installing it. Never make a purchase just to test a control. If the screen differs, stop and consult current official help. Ask the school before changing a school-managed account.
One question to take away
Verify one approval setting on the account your child actually uses.
